I am pretty new to quilting, so I am often at a loss as to how common blocks are put together & how much yardage it would take to complete a project. This little book helps in so many ways: 1) block ideas!; 2) putting things together -- you can either use the "list" as given, or look at the diagram & figure out how to piece using "traditional" methods (i.e. half-square triangles will show up as cut triangles in the list, but if you don''t want to piece that way, look at the diagram) & 3) fabric & yardage. While it''s doesn''t help you mix & match blocks like some other books, it''s great for some basic blocks. Plus, it''s spiral bound and will stay open.

The directions in this book are easy to follow. I love how many different blocks (and varying sizes of each block) are provided, the specific dimensions needed to cut each piece to form the blocks, and the different projects ideas displayed — everything from table runners to baby blankets to twin-full-queen-king sized quilts. I''m using this book to practice cutting techniques. Along with other members of my quilting bee, we are creating a different block each month to use in a sampler quilt at year-end.

This little book features 110 quilt blocks to choose from with cutting instructions for each in several different sizes. The beginning quilter might be lost with this book due to the brief instructions and abbreviations. The patterns are not sugar coated with fussy descriptions and are very much to the point. For the more experienced quilter, this is a fabulous design tool that cuts to the chase. 👍

This book is an excellent tool for any quilter trying to design their own quilt. There are over 100 quilt blocks, many of them familiar, but many not. The book gives how to construct each block in multiple sizes and how to use the block to either use it in a project, or how it might look in multiples, which helps identify secondary patterns. It''s the perfect tool for a quilter looking for traditional quilting designs.

Where this book totally shines is it gives you all the different measurements to do that block from 4" up to 12" block. They have done all the maths for each element of the block so you don''t have to!!! Also, it shows you the basic constitution and the different ways you could put your blocks together. It has a section covering pre cut fabric (fat quarter, jelly roll, layer cake and charm squares) with patterns to suit. It also covers blocks in a "Grid Number Index", (I''ve not come across that before). The only negative points for me was that it doesn''t confirm that seam allowance is included, I just have to assume it is, but I shouldn''t have to! It''s excellently presidented and easy to understand. It''s a must have for all quilters who want to up size or down size a block to fit their various projects. I''ve not come across a book quilt like it before!! I hope this will help you open up wider possibilities with your quilt projects.6 people found this helpfulReportS. E. I''m not brilliant at maths which means I''ve spent literally hours trying to size blocks to fit my creations :( Before I ordered this book I read the other reviews and someone had written ''not for a beginner'' I agree that you need some basic knowledge to understand the book - but if you like me have struggled to create blocks to the size you want this book is AMAZING 5 stars - saved me hours and hours I also like the format and spiral pages - its clear and easy to read and I don''t find the print too small and the instructions are very clear and well laid out.ReportFizzgig5.0 out of 5 starsVerified PurchaseLost this for a week and nearly went bananasReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2016
Excellent. New to quilting, I find it incredibly useful and really can''t manage without it. I particularly like the way each block''s measurements are set out in different sizes for you. Diagrams showing how individual blocks look together in a group is also very helpful.13 people found this helpfulReportM B5.0 out of 5 starsVerified PurchaseVery impressedReviewed in the United Kingdom on June 23, 2016

110 blocks with multiple sizes. The good thing about this book, is that is has a spiral binding, so you can sit it open on your bench while you cut your pieces and the diagrams show the construction. Block sizes vary from 3 or 4" up to 12 or 15".Report
