If not, you need to push the SSD into the M.2 NGFF Slot at a 45 degree angle.The pins of the SSD will be fully seated and covered.

Why this item does not work with my SSD?

A: This HE-C320 M.2 SSD Enclosure does not support PCIe NVMe SSD. it only supports SATA-based M.2/NGFF(B Key & B+M Key) SSD 2242 2260 2280mm. Please check your SSD label and connector. If it print PCIE, NVME, this enclosure will not support.

Why my laptop does not recognize the ssd and has a fatal error?

A: If there is a fatal errors or SSD can not be recognized: First, Please confirm your SSD is M.2 NGFF SATA SSD; Second, please confirm whether your SSD is fully inserted into the SATA Slot. If not, you need to push the SSD into the NGFF SATA Slot at a 45 degree angle.The pins of the SSD will be fully seated and covered.

I see this enclosure just is the b key version, does it support my b+m key sata ssd?

A: Yes, It supports, just confirm your SSD is SATA based, it does not support NVME based SSD. If your SATA SSD has two slots, one slot will be left in blank. It will not effect the function.

Why this enclosure will bend the SSD like a bow?

A: Please confirm whether your SSD is installed correctly. If your ssd size is 22*80mm, you need to press down the first two plastic lock catch,so it will not push the SSD up or bend it. Please read our User Manual carefully.

Installation Instructions

Note:

1. It requires 1 screws to assemble the enclosure.When insert the SSD to house casing, as it is shrapnel design, If your ssd size is 22*80mm, please press down the plastic lock catch A and B, so it will not push up the SSD,and will never make it bend.On the other hand, please gently press the plastic lock catch C back to make it Chucking your SSD.

2.Dose not support the NVMe SSD, it only supports SATA-based M.2/NGFF(B Key&B+M Key) SSD 2242 2260 2280mm solid state drivers. If need NVME PCIE based SSD Enclosure, pls purchase another model HE-C325 from our Store. SSK M.2 SATA SSD Enclosure connector only has one gear which can suitable for both (B Key&B+M Key) SSD. If your SATA SSD has two slots, one slot will be left in blank. It will not effect the function.

3. It is also not compatible with MacBook original SSD.

4. After installed, when the first time to use the new SSD, it may not be found, please partition and format it first under disk management, then it can be used normally. If want to work on both Mac and Windows OS, please format it to EXFAT.

Then, I found this enclosure for a fraction of the cost of those big-name ones, so it''s definitely worth trying. I had my hopes quite low until I opened its package. A unibody aluminum chassis which is thick enough to work as a heatsink and a type-C interface. You can''t go wrong with this one. I put a thin thermal pad in between my SSD and the enclosure, ran a bunch of benchmarks, and dumped 100gb of files in this portable drive I assembled. It felt warm to the touch, which is great BTW and here is a diskmark result attached. What else can I say? This thing is great with such a low price tag.

So, I pulled the SATA M.2 (not NVME) drive in the hopes I could recover the many files and pictures on the drive. Most of this was already backed up, but not recent changes. I ordered this enclosure and it somehow came to my door in 24 hours after ordering. I was able to put the drive into the enclosure in about 1 minute. The drive comes with a magnetic screw driver that''s needed to secure the enclosure closed. Utilizing the included cable, I was reading my files in moments. Works EXACTLY as described. The included cable is fat and robust (they may have upgraded this as previous reviews said the cable wasn''t high quality).

So, in summary: I recovered my files and I now have a 256 GB external SSD to use for convenient data backups and storage.

So I am not sure what is going on with this device, but the USB-C connection at the front end of it does not seem to be standard.
When I use any USB-C to USB3 cables I have, it works one way at 1/10th the performance (~40MB/s). Flip the USB-C connector the other way and it doesn''t work.
The cable supplied gives nice performance - clocked out 440MB/s seq reads .... On one side.
Flip the USB-C connector around aaaand - ~40MB/s

I bought this to recover the data on my hard drive when my laptop unexpectedly bit the dust. Unfortunately, I have an NVMe hard drive and it did not work with this enclosure, whomp whomp. That was my mistake. It does say in the description that it does not work with NVMe hard drives, only SATA, but I just went by the pictures of the slot where you plug in the drive - my drive looked like the pictures and I bought without noticing. So don''t do what I did - pay attention to the description. I''m going to assume that it would have worked had I possessed a SATA hard drive because the computer actually *did* see that something was plugged in, it just wouldn''t read the drive.

The enclosure is pretty easy to use, but there are better ones for a few extra dollars (e.g. Sabrent feels sturdier and is easier to swap drives). I did not deduct a star for that since it is very reasonably priced, but keep it in mind depending on your needs. This enclosure feels plasticky, but sturdy. To get to the drive, you have to pull out the slot and it makes a grating noise when you do so. This is probably not a problem unless you plan to frequently switch out the drive. Inside there are several clips to secure the hard drive. As mine was the longest variety, I had some trouble getting the hard drive to seat down into the clip. After reading other reviews, I realized that the clips to secure the smaller size drives get in the way and cause the drive to bow slightly. You can bend those clips backward out of the way (and should if you have a long drive to prevent the drive from eventually warping). Once you''ve bent the clips out of the way, the hard drive fits fine, although then the clips do slightly get in the way when you slide the black portion back into the silver enclosure. Again, probably only a problem if you switch them out frequently. Finally, there is a tiny screw to secure the black and silver pieces together. They nicely provided an extra screw as well as a small screwdriver, which was a nice touch. Honestly, I probably won''t even use the screw unless I''m transporting the drive - as I mentioned, the inner slot fits tightly inside to the point that it grates a bit when you pull it out so it''s unlikely to fall out with normal use. A final note, the enclosure came with a USB A to USB C cord along with an adaptor to convert the A side to a C plug. That was a nice touch - rather than pick one they provided options. I do not know enough to know if the A side with C adaptor would affect the transfer speed (as opposed to C to C), but if you don''t have a C port on your computer, a C to C plug would not work at all. It was a nice touch like the extra screw and screwdriver to ensure that you can use the enclosure out of the box without searching the house for tiny screwdrivers or cables. 4 people found this helpful Helpful

When plugging it in, it doesn’t read on any of my devices and when I go to the manager it gives me a fatal hardware error and won’t even let me select the disk to take further actions. I suspect that it’s a manufacturing issue and I unfortunately got a bad one.

It’s worth noting that I am an engineer and have worked repairing countless devices. This is not user error. I must say I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated because I needed this asap for work. The hardware seems sound and feels solid. These units lack a hold-down screw on the bottom of the SSD. They use a plastic hold-down tab instead. It doesn''t quite have the finished feel that a screw would, but does the trick. Be sure to understand the need to break off any hold-down tabs that aren''t needed for your size SSD, and to take note of how to seat the SSD correctly in the socket. I didn''t have any issues, I read through some of the reviews. Worked like a champ and I was up and running very quickly. Used my desktop pc to pre-load Ubuntu pre-installed server images, which worked very well when plugged into my Pis.

Firstly remove the retaining screw that is in place inside the case. Then put the SSD into the socket. This must be done at an angle. I suspect those who have had problems installing have tried to install it horizontally. This will not work. Once you have inserted the SSD at an angle push the other end down and insert the retaining screw. Then put the outer case on and fix this with the other screw.
