I bought a 14 inch memory foam mattress for it. However the mattress in the pictured I posted is stil unrolling from being wrapped in the box. This gives you a great idea as to how it fits even though its 14 inches.

The only downside to this frame is how hard it is to put together and like I say in the video one of the brackets for me was off by like a quarter of a inch and so I found a solution at homedepot called a flat electrical magnetic bracket. It had a center hole seperation of 2 inches which is exactly what you need. So it worked great to resolve it and I believe even strengthed the area it conects on the head board.

See more First let me say the bed when built is quite nice, headboard does not extend its hinged in one place but they can be adjusted high or low however, it can''t be undone without taking the bed apart, that being said you need 2 or 3 people, a good screwdriver, hammer, wrench they give, and allen key, it took 9 hours assembly time as be aware the bed is a sliegh slanting so pieces have to be assembled on an angle, some pieces are heavy, the legs on the bottom have to be screwed in there are no holes!
