See more When I bought a hot tub several years ago I decided to use a 4 prong 50 amp outlet to connect it to power. Sometimes when living in a small town, you use what is available. That was an inside 4 prong surface mount electric range outlet, weather wasn''t a problem because the hot tub is under a second floor deck. I recently got a new hot tub and decided to upgrade to an outside outlet box. When I found this one it seemed prefect. The original install had PVC conduit coming down the wall. This unit really isn''t made for the conduit to enter at the top. It is doable by punching a hole in the small square cover that screws to the top. The real problem is the wiring, except the ground, connects to the bottom of the outlet. Again, it is doable but trying to bend 2 - #6 awg and 1 - #8 awg 180 degrees and stuff the outlet mount plate back in the box is a chore. Once installed it looks and works great. Bringing the wiring in from either side or the bottom would be a breeze. The 4 stars for ''easy to install'' is for my case or any top connection. One person found this helpful Helpful

It''s 2.430 diameter which is larger than the cheaper recepticals. I use it to charge my model 3. I charged in the rain with no problem. I did cover the car connector and box on the charger cable as much as I could. I think it''s best to keep water out of the box on the cable as well as the connector on the car. The electrician who did the install drilled a hole in the back and used a plastic stain relief. I believe it''s a good outside receptical box for RV or car. It comes with a small lock. Helpful

Here is a list of why. - knockouts are not properly stamped. A hole punch is required. - screws for wire are cheap Philips only which strip not allowing proper torque of the screws to safely secure the wire - cage clamps have the screw going through the middle so it is not possible to get the wire under the clamp. I ran a 40amp cct so only used 8awg. If you want 50a and use 6awg even less chance of getting the wire in (See pic) - screw to secure the receptacle in the box is small terminal screw size. I used tapping screws to secure it. - the ground wire in the box is too short so you can''t wire the receptacle and put the ground wire back on. This product is very poorly designed and I am surprised it has an ETL rating.
