That alone has made traveling in and out of airports every few days a stress free experience.

A) who carries an empty bag? and yet the same review says bag is lighter than expected when full. heavy by itself and lighter than expected when full? hopefully you can see my issue with this one.
2)straps are too short.
A) I am only 5''7" so i cant comment on this one except they are fine for me and have plenty of room for adjustment
3)bag does not stand upright
A) mine does. i did take the hard board out of the laptop compartment though as i dont like that ( more on that later)
4) pouches are too small to fit anything useful in them
A) i can fit all kinds of things in them from keys notepads sync or charger cables headphones(earbuds) extra camera battery and charger
beleive it or not you dont have to use every pocket only for the intended or labled purpose.
5)back pain

6)doesnt fit under airline seat when flat
A) havnt flown with this yet. if it doesnt fit then this pack sure holds alot. and it does

A) i havnt encountered this but again i did take out the hard board wich gave it a real snug fit ( i like it better without the hard board)

A) YES IT IS!!! i use it for my ipod wich works great and it has the headphone hole (works great for that) and i like my phone in my pocket anyway because its easier to get to than unzipping a pocket
9)water bottle holder is not a "true waterbottle holder"
A) that is correct. it is more of another pocket wich i like better. i never really need water at a quick draw location. i usually dont walk for miles without stopping at points in between and i can use the zippered pocket for other things. it will hold a water bottle though just not as well as others
10) laptop charger pocket is too small
A) depends on your charger. Again you dont have to use all pockets for their labeled use. put things where they fit. there is plenty of room
11) pen holders are too far down and damage pens
A) just not true. they dont even go to the bottom of the bag to hit on the ground when you set bag down
12)No key clip in front pocket as advertised – the tag on the bag shows a key clip however this is not present on the final product.
A) should of read the tag properly. it clearly says not all features included in every bag. it is simply an advertisment of their "red protection" style of pockets
13)doesnt fit 17" laptop
A) no it wont. it says in the description "fits most 15" laptops. if you have a 17'' try the gambit bag. same as the renegade without the "RSS" system wich shortens the laptop pocket by a few inches.
About the hardboard in the laptop cpocket: there is a piece of hard plastic like board that is in the laptop pocket. it is on the front bottom and back of the pocket and is one piece. it makes the laptop a very snug fit. i didnt like it, and it was bent from packaging making uncomfortable to where also. i simply turned the pocket inside out and pulled out the hard board ( had to bend it to get it out) that made the pocket have much more room and a better fit. it also allowed the pack to rest flat against my back.
Overall this is a very well made and good looking pack with lots of room and plenty of organization ( assuming your smart enough to put things where they fit) Oh ant the crush proof tech vault is an awsome idea and love it. Now, there is a hole in what should have been the strongest stitched part of the bag. The stitches came apart at the seam. What a freaking drag.

BACKGROUND - I use this backpack for work. I put 2 laptops in it. When I go to work I put the bag on the backseat of my truck, drive to work, take bag from backseat, go into the office, take out laptops, work. End of day, I get back into my truck, put the backpack on the backseat and go home where I place it on the floor take out the laptops and do a bit more work. Rinse and repeat. Gentle to moderate use.

Now there is a hole in the bottom of the bag. What should be the strongest part of the bag. A hole, a sizeable hole, where the stitching has come apart at the seem. (See the Pics).

If I had spent $20-$30 for this bag, I would have expected nothing less. However, I spent over $100, the most I have ever spent on a backpack in my life (47 yo). I thought I was buying a quality product... I certainly paid a premium price. I wanted a durable, dependable bag that would have lasted years.

Now all I have to show for my expenditure is an expensive backpack with a hole in the bottom of it. I have a defective, expensive product.

I have left a 1 star review as a lover scorned.

UPDATE: I called, I explained the situation and Amazon sent a replacement the next day.

They did want to charge me a ''restocking'' fee and shipping fee, but I politely explained it was a defective bag and I would not be paying either of those fees.

In the end customer service stepped up and did right by me...

I probably could have tried to fix it but got a good price on this one so I pulled the trigger. This bag is my daily driver and also my "personal item" whenever I''m flying for work - 10-12 per year. I''ve lugged the bag around airports for hours on end (delays are inevitable) and between the chest strap and the nicely padded shoulder straps, I have emerged from the ordeal no worse for the wear. The bag fits nicely under the seat, even on the little regional jets which is a HUGE plus. I have a picture included of my "normal" stuff that I''m taking with me - will usually also include a case for Bose headphones and souvenirs for the wife and kids on the return leg. I''ve never had an issue with storage, the main compartment expands very nicely and the extra side pockets make everything easy to get to.

Also my daily driver which includes regular trips to and from work on a motorcycle. Again, comfort is great, the bag sits very still on my back even on the interstate where speeds are ummm, we''ll say pretty high. Takes a lot of abuse with wind and rain and road debris - looks almost as good as the day I bought.

On the plus side, the laptop pocket is extremely well padded and fits a 15" Lenovo laptop just fine. I doubt it will fit a 17" as they claim. Honestly, I have never seen a backpack with this kind of laptop protection so it gets major points for that.

Beyond the laptop compartment, the rest of the bag is surprisingly not as roomy as you might think. The main pocket is very tall and wide but not deep. Probably fine for certain uses, but I had to pack it rather awkwardly with my clothes, toiletries, socks, etc. Maybe some people like having a bunch of little pockets to separate things, but this comes at the expense of the main compartment. I understand the marketing appeal of organization pockets, but does anyone actually fill these with the 500 random items the photos always show?

Also, ergonomically, the shoulder straps are rather short. I am 6'' tall with a 42" chest and I had to completely loosen the shoulder straps to get a good fit. Not a big deal, but for anyone with a larger chest or who is taller, this might not work well. I suppose a tailor could replace the straps with something longer, but this feels like a big design oversight.

Overall construction seems fine, the fabric has an interesting rough texture to it that probably resists abrasion and staining better than the standard ballistic nylon. It also adds some visual appeal.

Ultimately I returned this because the design philosophy just didn''t make sense to me. I also wanted something that would be good for a 2-3 day work trip and this backpack fits the bill.

Not only do I love the traditional design (what''s up with backpacks today looking like futuristic jetpacks?), but I love the fact that it has the luggage handle passthrough. My last airplane trip consisted of using an Osprey Nebula which was great for storage, but I hated lugging a backpack over the shoulder while pulling a suitcase through the airport. It''s just tough to get through small spaces like a plane aisle or crowded airport restaurants.

A couple of other things I love is that 1.) it has a dedicated compartment for my laptop which protects it really well. It''s called the RSS (reactive suspension system). I''m able to fit my Surface laptop and a Dell netbook in it. You could probably punch the hell out of the backpack and not harm the devices. 2.) I love that it''s able to stand up with hardly anything in it. The only other backpacks I know of that stand up that great are the Swiss brand.

I''m 6''0" 175lbs and this fits perfect using both straps so I''m not sure why the other reviewers are having an issue with the fit.

I was looking for a bag that could take all my business/computing equipment. This is a bag I take with me to any meeting or any trip. It looks smart, but it is not really a professional business backpack, but the capacity and flexibility of this bag is so good you can overlook this. Really good quality, with a nice feel and construction, there is bags of storage space. I can carry all I need and more on a daily basis. Good sized strong zips, plenty of compartments. I think the clincher here is that the laptop compartment is really stiff and well constructed, with the bottom of the pouch being raised from the bottom of the bag. This means that when a laptop is in the bag, if dropped to the floor, the laptop will not hit the ground, because it is encased in a pouch.
