What a rare situation where I give a product five stars for fun, but consider it a one-star purchase. See more What a rare situation where I give a product five stars for fun, but consider it a one-star purchase. And yet here I am, with as much faith in this toy as you''d have in a used stereo sold out of a white van in a Walmart parking lot. I''ll tell you what I don''t like about it, but let''s start with the good.

So it''s fun. How could it not be fun? You stick it on the tub or bathroom wall, your kid gets to shoot hoops. Our Little Girl loves basketball. And anything that can make bath time more fun is a win in my book. So if we''re looking strictly at this being a fun toy - even if it''s a cheap one - it''s a five-star product. But let''s talk about what''s not so good about it.

It''s cheap. Like, Dollar Tree cheap. At most, it should only cost five bucks. It seems like one factory in China cranks these out, and just modifies the packaging for at least a dozen companies that sell the exact same thing on Amazon under different brand names. Most of the prices seem to be between $7 and $12. Now I''ll still buy a cheap looking toy if it''s fun, and I guess $8 is about the average for this among all sellers. But it doesn''t make it giftable, that''s for sure. Okay, more on how it''s not giftable....

The packaging. Never mind that it has that typical dollar store three buck toy packaging. The back of the packaging is downright strange. Check my picture upload. It literally looks like the graphic designer was in the middle of creating the package art for toy music instruments, and the boss walked up and said "change of plans." So the back says "Let''s play some music! Try these other products!" with references to other musical instruments, except the pictures are of a baby playing basketball. Flutes, trumpet, turtle. This isn''t a typo, someone just used a template for another toy, and didn''t bother to even change the wording. Which is probably why it''s being sold online with no pictures of the back, rather than in stores where people will scratch their heads. Why does this matter? Matters because 1. Another reason it''s not giftable, 2. If they cut corners on the packaging, how do I know they didn''t cut corners on using safe plastics to make this thing? Oh, it gets better. Let me explain.

Holes. The plastic balls have small pin holes in the sides. Balls go in the water, water gets in the holes. Now you''ve got a two-in-one toy. Bathtub basketball, and a Do-It-Yourself Mold Lab. So we''ll keep the goal itself, but now I have to go find balls from the store that water can''t get inside of.

Did our Daughter enjoy playing with this? Yes. Would I recommend you buy it? Nope. If you really want to get one of these, there are a few on Amazon that either have different types of balls, or the backboard that goes over a faucet head. In either case, read all the reviews to see if the balls have holes, or if they absorb water and get moldy just the same. My guess is, this particular brand is just gonna yank this product when they see parents have concerns about it.
