3 Layers of Vitrelle Glass

The 3 layers of glass are thermally bonded together by laminating a top and bottom layer of clear skin glass to a core centre layer, which creates dinnerware that’s lightweight but strong, thin but non-porous.

Break and Chip Resistant

Vitrelle is a unique, tempered glass that is resistant against breaks and chips. The special glass makes versatile Corelle dinnerware as thin and translucent as fine china, yet dramatically stronger.

Space Saving

Vitrelle is lightweight and thinner than typical ceramic plates—when stacked, Corelle takes up less space in cabinets than conventional ceramic plates and bowls.

Since Corelle is famous for producing dinnerware and bakeware that cannot be broken or chipped, it''s hard to resist holding a plate without wanting to drop it on the tile floor to see what happens. While Corelle doesn''t recommend home tests, this casual 16-piece dinnerware set is still fairly indestructible and is a real asset for busy families. --Simple White means you don''t have to worry about ever going out of style and dinnerware will match reds/blues of Memorial Day to red/greens of Christmas or blues of Hanukkah and every Sunflower, Seashell or Day Lily decoration in between.

--If lucky enough to have a built in dishwasher on your camping travel rig, these thinner light weight dishes means more can go into a load to save on water use in gray tanks, especially when dry camping.
--Has a nice curve edge to the plate so if sauce or soupy ingredients it will hold a fair amount without running over onto tabletops.
--Bowls are used for small salads, desserts, cereal or great for chopped up ingredients for say Taco Night of cheeses, avocados, onions and olives.
--Smaller plates are for side dish of cold pasta side dish, or a waiting vegetable side or piece of cheese bread to the big plate of spaghetti.
--I can buy another set of these dishes and KNOW it will always MATCH what I bought before... so no scouring garage sales to find more pieces.

I had no idea what brand it was but eventually determined this was was the brand. It feels and looks exactly the same as that bowl. I have a lot of these sets now and I''ve only ever managed to break the mugs once.

This Corelle set is the perfect alternative, and I can say that it has actually made my life easier on a daily basis. It is the lightest, easiest to store (12 dinner plates only take up 2 ½" of space), easiest to clean (glass-smooth, no ridges), most break-resistant non-plastic dinnerware imaginable. It''s microwave-safe, and you can even use the plates like a lid to cover the bowls when cooking in the microwave. In the unlikely event you break a piece, you can easily find replacements. There are many matching serving piece options available. It''s extremely inexpensive.

Frost White is elegant in its simplicity, which leaves you free to use just about any linens to get the look you want, and which sets off food beautifully.

Although the cups are not vitrelle, they can be stacked in twos to save space, are not terribly heavy, are a nice size, the flared shape makes them easy to hold, and the look is an improvement over the small, hook-handled vitrelle cups (it''s not possible to make a traditional loop-handled cup of vitrelle) of the 1970s. Yes, stoneware cups break or chip, but again, you can replace them easily.

Dishes and bowls are VERY, VERY thing compared to what I am used to. Thin enough to feel a little nervous holding one edge of the plate with one hand and washing it with a sponge in the other hand. I don''t know how easily they chip because I have only had them a few weeks, but they feel quite fragile. Not sure if they really are or not but I am a little extra careful while washing them or leaving them in the sink with heavier items.

They take up very little space when you stack them. The 4 large plates stacked seems shorter in height than 2 of my old plates stacked. Probably great for someone with limited shelf space, up and down.

Mugs are a lot more bulky than the rest of the pieces. More in line with what I am used to. They do not feel fragile.

Some of the plates arrived with some kind of brown, oily smudges on the bottom. I am guessing it had to do with the manufacturing process.
