3 layers of Vitrelle Glass

The 3 layers of glass are thermally bonded together by laminating a top and bottom layer of clear skin glass to a core center layer, which creates dinnerware that’s lightweight but strong, thin but nonporous.

Break & Chip Resistant

Vitrelle is a unique, tempered glass that is resistant against breaks & chips. The special glass makes versatile Corelle dinnerware as thin and translucent as fine china, yet dramatically stronger.

Space Saving

Vitrelle is lightweight and thinner than typical ceramic plates when stacked, Corelle takes up less space in cabinets than conventional ceramic plates and bowls.

I don''t want to diss the "P" (which I''ve liked for a long time)---but my hands aren''t as strong as they used to be, and I tend to drop them like hotcakes! I''ve had Corelle in the past, but it''s been a very long time ago, and I was a little skeptical about ordering these. I have been looking for nice every day dishes and I especially wanted to purchase products made in the UNITED STATES (*although the cups are made in China--what can you say?) I paid close attention to the reviews of this particular Corelle pattern, and to tell you the truth, that''s what made up my mind. I just bought 3 sets of these so that I could have 12 place settings, and so far, I am really happy with these dishes. They are beautifully designed with a raised scroll/vine/floral pattern; very classy and timeless, and they will go with anything and ANY Holiday throughout the year. The only drawback that I can see is that Corelle doesn''t make any smaller plates or bowls to go with them---which would be a huge plus in my book! Judging from some other reviews, I think most folks would agree with me on that one. I''m thinking that apparently people don''t serve bread or dessert on small plates anymore. Hmmm. Oh well, I guess, I''ll just have to mix and match---just makes for a more eclectic table setting! I''m looking now to try to purchase some smaller plates for desserts, bread, etc. I added photos of the set (some of the photos have an ivory colored Pfalzgraf mug to show the color and thickness differences, and I also added a little white porcelain bowl that I already had that would sort of match the set). We haven''t had a steak dinner yet with the dinner plates and now I''m worried those too will get marked up easy. These are Corelle, so I''m not trying to baby these! If they can''t hold up to light cutting with a butter knife, what damage will a steak knife do?! I have accidentally dropped a plate in the sink while washing and no chips or breakage, thankfully! I''m just unhappy about how easily they can get marked up :(
They are so beautiful and elegant though which is why I still love them. The embossed design on the white is perfect. It goes well with any decor and looks like fine China! I also like that when I am handwashing them they aren''t super slippery and want to fall right out of my hands. They have a sort of grip coating which is nice.
Just warning all those who are also OCD about cosmetic imperfections that can happen due to light wear :(

The only other complaint is what others have said, the mugs in the set are porcelain and not the Corelle vitrelle. Since they are porcelain it isn''t a bright white like the plates and bowls. I remember the old Corelle mugs my grandmother had and they held up great. The biggest reason I wanted these was because I found I was running my dishwasher way too frequently. The problem was that my bowls would only fit 4-5 per row! These are designed to fit about 12-15 per row! I am saving a lot of energy, and that is the goal.
