kinsho is the self-knowledge and intuition gleaned from our many food experiences. We access these insights by paying attention.

Heather Sears started Kinsho after writing her 4x award-winning book, Mind to Mouth: A Busy Chick’s Guide to Mindful Meals.

She had found her increasingly mindless food habits and smart phone addiction had her choking during triple-tasking work lunches and making unhealthy (but fast!) food choices for herself and family.

She found that integrating mindful moments around food – shopping, prep and eating – helped her increase the healthfulness and pleasure of each bite. It also deepened her self-knowing as new food preferences emerged and old habits slipped away.

Additionally, she found that certain foodware designs were more helpful and enjoyable - such as bento boxes with specific design elements that support attentive eating, easier incorporation of a variety of food and healthier portions.

Kinsho creates well-designed reusable products and shares tips on bento meal prep and how mealtime mindfulness can support a deeper connection not just with the food we eat, but with ourselves, family and friends.

I was excited to get these for my son’s lunchbox. I ordered 4 (one set of 2 mini, and one set of 1 mini/1 large). We used them one time. When I took them out of the dishwasher, I heard water sloshing. The minis have water inside the two pieces of plastic that make the box. I reached out to the company to find out if this is a common defect or if it can be replaced and customer care rep, Rose, advised me I should be putting them on the top rack, not bottom. (I never said they were on the bottom because they weren’t on the bottom. Like the directions all say, I put it on the top rack.) I will have to contact amazon directly for assistance as the company itself could not do anything other than offer that advice. Such an inconvenience. I hope the replacements will be better quality.
Review will be updated whenever the hassle of replacing the items is over.

UPDATE::: I received the replacements. Same thing happened. Customer service was very apologetic and kind this go around. They said this must be a bad batch and would send out another set of replacements when they arrive.

SECOND UPDATE: They didn’t stand behind their product and follow through with the replacements. Original review: I really liked this- the first week and even though I''ve hand washed this after every use the lid will not realign anymore and i cannot close the lid without putting my entire body weight on it and forcing the snaps shut. I wash the containers by hand - fill with hot soapy water, close the lid, shake for 15-20 seconds, open and rinse. Good to go!

Pros - no leaks, good compartment sizes (except for large sandwiches - see below). The height inside the compartments is enough that I can pack small condiment-size containers if needed. The utensil compartment is great for sending little notes to your kids (it''s a great size for mini candy bars too!). Also, customer service is awesome - the first time my daughter used this, she lost the fork. I contacted the company, and for minimal cost, I replaced the fork, and ordered an additional set. The representative, Heather, replied promptly, and I had the new utensils within days.

Cons - almost none, except that sandwiches on full-size/thickness bread can be hard to fit. I make all our bread, so I just slice it thinly. But sturdier, thicker slices might be an issue. If your kids only takes half a sandwich (like my 6 year old), it''s not an issue. I had been looking for a while for a set , a lunch sized all in one container plus a snack sized container to use that would fit our favorite lunch bag. That being said we were very happy to find this set. It seemed to have most of all our must haves and be a good leak proof set. We bought 2 sets about 2 weeks ago, so they did not have a lot of use yet, we always hand wash upon getting home, and dry completely on countertop before next use. We do have other bentos that we use so this is not used daily and we allow plenty of drying time to have no moldy experiences.
Pros:
1- looks super neat, fits the lunch bag we prefer to use. Lunch bag gets well organized .
2- it is leak proof enough for us, I have packed yogurt and granola in the mini. Nothing more liquid than that yet. Lunch and fruits look good upon opening it at time to eat .
3- versatile color .
4- space for a name personalization sticker tag in the top or in the side lid and container, if you do not want it to mistaken with someone else’s things.
5- smart divisions.
6- see through window to see what it is inside without opening the unit.
7- easy for us to open upon pulling the side snaps .
8- snaps on all four sides .
Now the CONS:
1- It feels a bit fragile, the plastic has a flexibility to it, it says to always hand wash the lid, does not mention anything else about the care of the tray, it does mention the tray can be used in the microwave in one of the description pictures, we have not tried and I do not pretend . So you are left to guess it. So far we have packed cold lunches, hand washed , towel dry and leave it open in the counter to make sure it is fully dried before reusing or storing.
2- the seal changes after a few uses, I am still in my return window, and still considering if we should return despite loving the looks and size of it. It is getting harder to open and close it. It mentions clearly that it is for adults and teens to open and close. Well, I am an adult and I see that the opening and closing function is being compromised . We have not used it daily yet, both my husband and I can see the unit getting harder and harder to close and open. If that continues, the unit may loose function soon. It has nothing to do with being able to press down when closing and release it when opening. It has to do with distortion and being very very hard to press it down to close and guess what... open it. I saw many other reviews mentioning the same issue but others did not say anything. I almost spilled the contents trying to get it opened yesterday so that experience prompted me to write this review.
I feel like whoever packs lunches and is looking for a leak proof on the go container does expect it to last a decent amount of time, and function as described.

This bento box is totally leakproof with a very secured lid. It can be a bit tough to open right away but I’m all about the leak-free lid (you can secure the lid separately on four sides) so I will take that slight inconvenience any day. The compartments are perfect sizes for small amounts of food which is how much my son eats anyway (small portions, but lots of variety) so this box meets my needs. Plus the little compartment for the spoon and fork are super cute and convenient. Also I was able to toss this into the dishwasher top rack for a quick clean and the box didn’t change shape. I was a bit nervous to use plastic as I prefer stainless steel but the materials in the product are nicely laid out and safe for kids and adults.

Unfortunately, they are a nightmare for kids to operate. I have a 5.5 year old starting kindergarten. I had him practice opening and closing these. It took a lot of practice, but I was still not satisfied that he’d be able to operate these consistently. It’s not just about opening them, it’s also the fact that they’re very difficult to close. And if you don’t do it perfectly, items will leak out for sure.

Cons:
When opening these air tight lunch boxes: The air tight seal also means air gets trapped inside and creates a seal that is difficult to break for children (even adults have to use elbow grease). Kids will manipulate the box and surely items will fall out unexpectedly when the seal breaks.
When closing:
You have to line up the deal exactly, or it won’t close. And if you manage to close two of the four tabs, you’ll be again stuck with a seal that would need to be broken. Then try again to close it so all tabs line up.

The lids are NOT dishwasher safe. So those need hand washing daily. They will warp in the DW. So if that’s not your thing, skip these.

Pros:
These will work for adults. We can look past the bother of having to pry them open, and line up all tabs to close. They will fit a ton. They are very nice looking. The mini boxes are ideal for a variety of snacks with their many compartments.
I wish they came in neutral colors for adults.
