I was not able to seal nail holes on 32 wooden stairsteps before the LED went dim and it stopped producing heat.

It cannot work with NiMH rechargeables, because 3.6V is too low of a voltage, even for the LED (it needs 4.5V).

After I replaced the original alkaline batteries with a new set of alkaline batteries, it burned out after about 10 minutes. So I was able to get only about 45 minutes of total work, before it burned out. I only pressed the button when I actually needed heat.

Just to make sure it didn''t automatically shut down due to overheating, I turned it off and let it cool for 30 minutes, but even after letting it cool down, the heater doesn''t work anymore -- only the LED works.

I''m returning it as defective.

See more This is the cheapest burn-in tool I can find other than repurposing one of my soldering irons. It is actually made by mohawk, the biggest company that makes burn-in sticks. Some of the reviews complain about the batteries going dead. I think that''s to be expected out of a battery powered heating tool. When I do touch ups on location it''s a lot easier than finding a place to plug in and hoping nobody trips on the cord. Just like soldering irons, the tip needs to be cleaned regularly. Helpful Report Amazon Customer2.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase Stick to electric or butane Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2021 Doesn’t stay hot in the on position. Have to push the flashlight button to ‘wake it up’ when it starts to cool down to reheat it.
Also the flat tip isn’t much bigger than the pointed tip, pretty useless.
Helpful Report Moises Olivas3.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase Great tool, but... Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2020 it works good if the item being worked on is laying down. I work on repairing wooden doors and 99.8% of the time they are standing and therefore its extremely difficult to use the wax as we need to fill scratches or so... Helpful Report JA4.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase Works well, bought again Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019 Worked well until battery change. Battery door connector tab broke off. Requested a return. In the interim ordered a replacement. Hoping for a refund from manuf.
