The fishing rods seem to have some spaces where water can definitely seep inside as shown in pictures so I recommend removing them and trying to drain them after each use. The fish are silicone and float in the water with no issues. The fishing rods are very small and plastic, and do not have the capacity to reel in which I enjoy as that could pose harm for smaller children with a long dangling rope. The fishing rod can catch the fish pretty easily so it’s fun for even my younger children. I feel as though the designer of this product really thought this one out well in advance. I''ve owned several different types of kids fishing toys over the year, some decent and some really bad ones. Here are my thoughts. 1) It''s an easy catch. Almost all the other different types I''ve gotten for my toddler (who loves "fishies" by the way) were either awful or mediocre at best. Rule of thumb, if you''re having a little bit of a hard time catching the little fishes when using a kid''s fish toy, why on earth should it be any easier for your young toddler who has but only a few years of TOTAL life experience under their diaper waistband? Like seriously, they just reached the pincer grasping and whole cognitive awareness ordeal maybe just a few to several months ago. I digress, this one is easier to catch than any other I''ve used in the past. Perfectly well suited for a toddler. 2) The fishes float and don''t sink or swim. The hook and loop are also more oversized than most making for a more reasonable catch. Others on the market are either magnetic or the smaller hook and loop type. 3) Lost of fun colors and designs going on. Very cute, smiley, and well designed. 4) The fishes don''t have that open hole on the bottom unlike most other rubber/squishy type toys e.g. rubber duckies. If you''ve had enough experience with these then you''ll know water gets trapped in very easy, and left unattended the water is going to get bad over time - think mildew and mold. And yes, I''ve seen it either trapped inside or squirted out on a number of occasions... I hate it. 5) The fishing rods don''t reel up... bummer. My toddler''s old enough to have been able to figure it out. But not having it definitely does make it much easier and helps your toddler stay focused on the job at task - catching fish. It''s an easy drop and pull catch. Come to think of it, the string is a really perfect length, it doesn''t tangle either which I can really appreciate... ask me how I know. (I''m being sarcastic, don''t.) OVERALL, I''m really well pleased with it.
