Product Description
Genuine Nagoya UT-72
The Nagoya UT-72 is a dual-band magnet mount antenna with over 4 dB of gain. It is designed to be used with your mobile or handheld radio. An included super flexible SMA adapter cable allows for easier installation right to your handheld radio. It will help improve your signal by mounting the antenna on any vehicle with a steel body (like cars).
The UT-72 antenna, when mounted vertically is omni-directional which allows it to receive signal from all directions. It uses a very heavy duty rare earth magnet on it's 3.25 inch magnetic mount and is the perfect antenna for cars, pickup trucks, vans and SUVs.
With 14 feet of Heavy Duty RG-58 you are able to set up your Antenna on almost any vehicle application. The antenna itself is 2.5mm thick compared to the usual 1.5mm antennas found on most vehicle magnetic mounts.
Included in the package is a RG316 SMA Jumper that allows easier installation on your handheld radio.
Compatible with both SMA-Female and UHF (SO-239) installations.

Genuine Nagoya Antennas
Nagoya antennas are each individually analyzed to ensure compatibility with your radio.
Nagoya Antennas are dependable, accurate, reliable, and affordable.
Avoid antennas that pretend to be a Nagoya. Antennas that are not individually tested or tuned can cause high SWR, which damages a radio.
Nagoya Antennas are proven to be a reliable and safe antenna manufacturer.
Nagoya UT-72.
Receive Hard to Hear Signals and Transmit Further
Most Nagoya antennas will increase your radio's transmitting gain compared to their factory antenna.
In most cases: the longer the antenna is the better the antenna is capable of boosting weak frequencies and receiving difficult to hear stations. Shorter antennas offer more portability and convenience, while longer antennas generally perform better.

I have had this antenna for about a week and did some SWR testing on it while connected to a Baofeng BF-F8HP 8 watt radio. I just threw the antenna on top of my Tacoma and did the test in less than ideal conditions, in a suburban neighborhood with lots of clutter around. As you can see from the photo it didn''t love the bottom of the 70cm UHF band but even at the worst, it was at 1.7. Most of the readings were well below 1.5 and that is considered by most to be an excellent reading. The magnetic base has not budged even up to 70mph and I accidentally backed into my garage without unscrewing it, no damage resulted surprisingly.

Once I get into a hobby, I tend to go "all in" over time. What started as a vague interest in FRS/GMRS walkie talkies turned into the purchase of multiple BaoFeng VHF/UHF handheld two-way radios and a BTECH AMP-U25 mobile amplifier. Initially, I had a Nagoya UT-308UV magnetic mount car antenna which worked fairly well when connected directly to a BaoFeng BF-F8HP two-way radio, but upgraded to this UT-72 Super Loading Coil 19-Inch Magnetic Mount VHF/UHF Antenna with a PL-259 male connector to mate with the AMP-U25''s SO-239 female connector. The upgrade was amazing!
The difference in quality, power handling, and most importantly SWR, was night and day. The UT308UV measured over 2.5 SWR, allowing just under 15W of RF power to leave the transmitter. The UT-72 super loading coil antenna reduced the measured SWR to 1.2, delivering almost 20W of power. This is a remarkable improvement, not only in power delivery, but in safety to the UHF amplifier.
The Nagoya UT-72 Super Loading Coil 19-Inch antenna is arguably the best magnetic mount mobile antenna for VHF/UHF applications. Highly recommended.

First, the PL-259 connector on the antenna coax would not seat into the PL-259 Female on the SMA adapter. Whoever soldered the connection got a little messy. It took a #20 drill bit to clean the female end. A little bit of emery cloth on the male end and all was better. Out of the box 2M SWR was 1:3. 70CM SWR was 1.4:1. Magnet is strong but not so strong you''re fearful of scratching the paint when you remove the antenna. Durability lost a star because the SMA adapter seems somewhat fragile. I will tweak the SWR this weekend. I would recommend this antenna to a friend. Nothing has changed as of 9/21/2018.

Fake Nagoya antennas are all over the internet at crazy low prices and at higher prices too. You really need to trust your source or you will buy a fake one that can damage your radio with a high SWR. I put all my antennas on my antenna analyzer to check to see if they actually are tuned to the HAM VHF band or not. Fake Nagoya antennas are pretty easy to spot this way. I got two Nagoya''s from BTECH and both tested great. They also came with the little rubber washer/spacer that Nagoya includes in the package and it is another measure to assure you it is a real Nagoya and not a fake -- although someday the fakers may catch on to that little detail and start including them. The length adjustment screw (between the antenna and the spring) is not present on the I just received therefore there is no way to fine tune the length. There''s no hole at all so I presume this is a non-adjustable version. It would''ve been ok if it worked out of the box, but at 2m band, SWR is measured at about SWR=6 and its not usable. 70cm sits at roughly SWR=2 barely acceptable. I tried everything and played around for hours experimenting with ground plane but no dice. I asked a question but still waiting to hear back. I will likely be returning it.Report
